Our Mandate
Our mandate is simple… The Riot Campus
Radio will be the "students voice" on campus and beyond. This will
unite Durham College, UOIT, and community members. The Riot also
offers an opportunity to the artistic talent of Durham Region to be
recognized. The Riot Campus Radio was established in January 2007,
formerly known as The FreQuency Campus Radio or The FreQ, originated
in September 2003. After some issues with copyright a name change
was necessary. With the help of the students submitting names and
then voting on them, The Riot was born. We still embody all the same
things as our former station and will continue to strive for the
same level of greatness if not exceed it. It’s Durham Region's only
college radio station operating at the University of Ontario
Institute of Technology and Durham College's Oshawa campus. The
radio station broadcasts in the Market Place Cafeteria as well as
the Internet at www.theriotradio.com.
The Riot is a communication and marketing
tool for, the athletic department, the students association, career
and employment services, health and wellness, student centre, and
more… allowing for enhanced campus life.
Perhaps
the most important:
-
Music and Talk for students by
students including band interviews, PSAs, Campus
news/weather/sports, SA elections and speeches, community
events· College/University Programs Involved.
-
Marketing, Advertising, Music Business
Management, Journalism, Criminal Justice, Computer Programming,
and many more.
-
The Riot will provide: Current,
practical, and essential hands-on experience for Durham College
and UOIT students, along with community members. The Riot
provides all Durham College and UOIT students with a greater
"Sense of Community" by reaching out to the entire campus and
surrounding region.
-
The Riot stimulates the senses through
this audio medium facilitating multi-cultural communication for
all college and university disciplines on campus while welcoming
the community of Durham Region.
-
Our thirst for knowledge in this
information age challenges us to keep pace by utilizing new
means of communication. The Riot provides this link for our
students, interested businesses, and community members.
